A SECOND LOOK
Throughout my artistic journey, I have always gravitated toward illustrating women. My work depicts the broad spectrum of emotions that accompany living in a female body. I aim to unmask the painful & hidden dialogue that most women endure daily due to men, media, etc. Drawing women is fascinating and sometimes predictable. Despite each individual's varying personality, one universal truth follows everyone who identifies as a woman: the inevitable obligation to carry the weight of misogyny, harassment, and abuse. I plan to use my artwork and photography to remind women globally always to hold their fire and sparkle above assumptions about female abilities and disbelief in girl power. My work illustrates the bravery, resilience, and value of marginalized populations. I am particularly passionate about challenging communal assumptions about those struggling with substance abuse, those incarcerated, and those with mental illness. My strong desire to use visual storytelling as a messenger of female empowerment drives my craft. I am eager to see where and to whom it leads me.

This is rather personal but the two drawings on the left of this text are my two favorite drawings. Throughout my entire life, my grandmother has always been a huge fan and encourager of my art. She loved it and I loved the way she reacted to my passion. In my final visit to her home in Canada I wanted to leave her with my art. I asked her what color I should make the eyes of the far left drawing and she said, "blue." The second drawing I did based on my input alone and once I finished the drawings I eagerly gave her both pieces. She framed them immediately and was so complimentary. This was the last thing I gave my grandmother and the last time I saw her before she passed away. I am happy I was able to share this with her and it makes my heart smile to think about her love for me and for my work.
